Traditional vs. Alternative Assets

Traditional assets are the well-established categories most people build their financial foundation on: stocks, bonds, funds, and real estate, all covered elsewhere in this app. Alternative assets are everything outside that traditional core — cryptocurrency, commodities like gold, collectibles, and private investments like venture capital.
Alternative assets generally share a few traits: they're often more volatile, harder to value precisely, less regulated, and less liquid (harder to quickly convert to cash) than traditional assets. That doesn't automatically make them bad — it makes them a different kind of tool, best used carefully and in the right proportion.
Categories outside the traditional core of stocks, bonds, funds, and real estate are generally called ____ assets.
This track is written deliberately cautiously. Alternative assets attract a lot of hype, and hype has burned a lot of people who bought in for the wrong reasons at the wrong moment. The goal here is real understanding — enough to make an informed, deliberate decision about whether and how much exposure, if any, makes sense for you — not a pitch to buy anything specific.
What generally distinguishes alternative assets from traditional ones?
This track's goal is to convince you to buy cryptocurrency or other alternative assets.
