Narrow AI vs. General AI

Every AI system in real use today is narrow AI: it's built and trained for a specific kind of task — writing text, generating images, recommending videos, detecting spam — and it doesn't generalize far beyond that. A model that's excellent at writing essays has no built-in ability to drive a car or plan a vacation; it would need to be an entirely different system for that.
Artificial general intelligence (AGI) is the hypothetical idea of a single AI system with human-level, flexible intelligence across essentially any task — able to learn a brand-new skill the way a person can, not just the one narrow thing it was trained on. AGI does not exist yet. It's an active research goal and a serious topic of debate, not a shipped product.
This matters because movies and headlines often blur the two together, which makes today's narrow tools sound far more capable — or far scarier — than they actually are. A chatbot that writes a great email is not a step away from general reasoning about the world; it's a highly capable narrow system doing one specific kind of pattern prediction very well.
What best describes the AI tools in real, everyday use today?
A hypothetical AI system with human-level, flexible intelligence across essentially any task is called ____.
A chatbot that's very good at writing text also has a general ability to reason about any topic the way a person does.

How do AI, machine learning, and deep learning relate to each other?
Machine learning systems learn patterns from examples instead of following explicit hand-written rules for every case.
Almost every AI tool making headlines recently (chatbots, image generators) is built on ____.
What is a modern AI model fundamentally doing when it produces an answer?
AI "hallucination" means the model is deliberately lying to the user.
A confidently stated but false AI output is commonly called ____.
What is narrow AI?
Artificial general intelligence (AGI) already exists and is in wide use today.
A hypothetical AI with human-level, flexible intelligence across essentially any task is called ____.
Why is it useful to tell narrow AI apart from AGI when reading AI headlines?
