The Habit Loop

A habit is a behavior that's become automatic through repetition, running on a simple loop: a cue that kicks it off, a routine that's the actual behavior, and a reward that makes your brain want to repeat it next time. Brushing your teeth, checking your phone the second you wake up, making coffee before anything else — all the same loop underneath.
The loop is why habits feel effortless once they're formed. Early on, a new behavior takes real conscious effort — deciding to do it, remembering to do it, pushing through not wanting to. Once the loop is established, the cue alone is often enough to trigger the routine almost without thinking. That's not magic. It's just repetition wiring the pattern in.
This matters for building new habits because it reframes the actual goal. You're not trying to feel motivated forever — motivation is unreliable and fades fast. You're trying to run the same cue-routine-reward loop enough times that the behavior stops needing motivation at all. This track is about doing that deliberately instead of hoping it happens on its own.
What are the three parts of the habit loop?
A habit feels automatic once the ____ alone is enough to trigger the routine.
The real goal of building a habit is to stay motivated forever so you keep doing the behavior.
