Flow as an Actual Signal · Lesson 6 of 9

A Simple Way to Start Tracking It

A free lesson from Swipe Personal Growth · Purpose & Direction, level 2 · updated October 2026

By the Swipe team, founded by Colin · how we make lessons

Since flow only shows up in hindsight, the practical move is a simple retrospective habit: at the end of the day, or a few times a week, jot down any stretch where you lost track of time and what you were actually doing.

One entry tells you almost nothing. Ten entries over a month start to form a pattern — not necessarily one activity, but a shape: a type of problem, a kind of interaction, a particular pace of work that keeps showing up.

🤖
The log is boring on purpose — the pattern is the interesting part. 📝

Keep the log boring and specific rather than trying to interpret it as you go. A few words is enough — what you were doing, roughly how long it lasted. Save the pattern-spotting for later, once there's actually enough evidence to spot one.
