Flow as an Actual Signal · Lesson 5 of 9

You Clock It in Hindsight, Not in the Moment

A free lesson from Swipe Personal Growth · Purpose & Direction, level 2 · updated October 2026

By the Swipe team, founded by Colin · how we make lessons

One confusing thing about flow is that it rarely feels like anything special while it's happening. There's no internal alarm that goes off — mostly there's just an absence of the usual mental chatter, including the chatter that would normally be checking the clock.

🤖
You don't clock flow live — you clock the surprise afterward. ⏳

You don't clock flow live — you clock the surprise afterward, the "wait, it's already been two hours" moment. That's not a flaw in the signal, it's just how you have to read it: after the fact, not during.

This means the useful move isn't trying to monitor yourself for flow in real time — that kind of self-watching usually breaks the state anyway. It's building a habit of looking backward and asking what you were doing right before you noticed the time had disappeared.
